Raw and Bold. This true story is heartbreaking at times and funny at times, but throughout reveals the heart of a survivor! It is a must read for anyone seeking hope to get through the storms of life!
A raw look inside the life of an abused child who faces heartbreak after heartbreak. The author interjects humor and inspires hope, offering encouragement to anyone who has experienced a turbulent life. Regardless of our trauma, it is possible to be a survivor!
Cloud People by Rae may tend to be heart-melting at some points, but the message and lessons it teaches are extraordinary.
The author focused on a cast of characters that enjoy good development and who are struggling to navigate the battle between good and bad. There are different types of them, but they are equally well-thought-out and crafted and they contribute very well to the plot and to the entire reading experience.
Written in the first person singular, the story is instantly appealing and memorable. The dialogues mingled in between help a lot to follow the story along.
This book is warm, playful and acutely perceptive. For me, it is one of the books of the year.
Excellent Book! What a wonderful story of tragedy and perseverance. I love a good book and this one does not disappoint!
Near a River Book Reviews
The natural beauty in this book of bald eagles in their natural habitat. You feel a sense of a close friend made this book.
My 4 year old loved it, and the author used the same font as her daycare pre k class. The site words listed at the end was an added benefit.
BJ Rae's excellent Near a River is guaranteed to be catnip for early readers. It's a simple story: two young bald eagles yearn to fly and are awaiting the return of their mother to teach them. But it's also accompanied by breathtaking photos (most of them taken by the author) which will have children returning to the story again and again.
This is a very simple early reader book. The photographs are wonderful and completely natural in nature. The story is about two young bald eagles who are alone in their nest. They are hungry and want their mom. They also want to learn to fly. When mom comes back, they go on a test flight with her and learn quickly how to fly. A book to interest young readers in nature and bald eagles. There is also a lesson to learn about looking to your parents to teach you. My grandson loved the pictures but is a bit young for the other lessons. There is a wordlist at the back that can be used to reinforce the words. A good book for a grade one classroom library. Thanks to Dog Ear Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book is beautifully written and especially inviting for a child to read and have the book read out loud. My son received it today and we have read it quite a few times already; he is very excited to share the book with his Sunday school class. Near a River would make a lovely birthday or Christmas gift for any child. I love that Ms. Rae included sight words in the back of the book, we sat and my son said "Oh, i know that word, and that word!". Just a joy of a book!
An excellent book for young children and beginning readers! The pictures are realistic, the way a child would see these images. The text is motivating. It encourages young children to read (they can actually read it!). It also teaches them to about being persistent to reach their goals, about looking to their parents for guidance, and to love nature.
This book is about our national symbol, the bald eagle. IT IS AWESOME!
